“For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Turn on your TV on any given day and there are reports of violence, corruption, and despair, not only in our country but all over the world. (For unto us a child is born). Not only nationally but even in small communities, crime covers the 6 o’clock news. (to us a son is given). What do we do when lawmakers and politicians use their influence for corruption and make it difficult to trust them as leaders? (and the government will be on his shoulders). Divorce, drugs, bullying, suicide, and broken families are all around us and the pain and suffering and injustice is almost unbearable. (Wonderful counselor). We ask ourselves how this world could become so evil and how can we make it right. (Mighty God). Is there someone these criminals, corrupt politicians, warring countries, terrorists, and broken families, could turn to for hope even at their lowest moments? (Everlasting Father). Is there a way for us to have peace in a lost and fallen world? (Prince of Peace) Yes! Jesus gives us that hope! Jesus was sent to establish peace. When we accept His sacrifice on the cross, that brings peace between us and God. We can help bring peace and hope to those around us by forgiving others when they wrong us, loving others and serving one another out of love. No matter whether we are praying for a corrupt politician or a broken parent, another nation or a neighbor, Jesus, our Prince of Peace has the power to bring about hope and harmony. The next time you turn on the news, don’t be discouraged. Use it as an opportunity to pray for those who are hurting. When you hear of a need of someone in your realm of opportunity, use your chance to make a difference. Let the way you live and love bring hope to a lost and fallen world. They need it!

Lord Jesus, sometimes I get so discouraged in this world. I see hurt and hate and pain with no hope for any change. But, you are the God of hope and I pray for peace today. Help the ones with bitterness and anger and despair to have forgiveness, healing and hope. Help me show the love of Christ to everyone you place in my path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
