“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.” 2 Corinthians 5:14
How great is the love of Christ? Christ’s love is so great that it compels us – forces us – to act. In the verse that precedes this one (2 Cor. 5:13), Paul, the writer of 2 Corinthians, reveals that there were some people who thought that Paul was “out of his mind.” But Paul answered them by saying that because of Christ’s love, he has no choice but to act. Paul was convinced – had no doubt whatsoever – that Jesus loved all people so much that He died for them. Because of Christ’s sacrifice, our sins can be forgiven, and we can be alive in Christ Jesus! What more could Jesus do to prove His love than to give His life?
Have you ever heard the song, “O How He Loves You and Me” (Kurt Kaiser, 1975)? If you have never heard this song before, it is worth a moment to look it up on YouTube. It’s a simple song, but its two short verses contain the profound truth of Christ’s love, brought to us here in 2 Cor. 5:14.
O how He loves you and me. O how He loves you and me. He gave His life, what more could He give? O how He loves you. O how He loves me. O how He loves you and me.
Jesus to Calvary did go. His love for others to show. What He did there brought hope from despair. O how He loves you. O how He loves me. O how He loves you and me.
Our prayer is that you and your family will know this great love and that it will compel you to share it with others this Christmas season! Lord, I am convinced that You died for me so that I do not have to remain dead in my sin. Thank you for your forgiveness, and your great, great love. May Your love compel me to live for You every day. Amen
