“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
Emmanuel: God with us. When Jesus came into the world, he came from the Father’s side to live in this broken world. When Jesus came into our lives, he came to dwell in us through the Holy Spirit. The very Word and breath of God descended to be with us willingly. We don’t deserve such a gift, but as this verse says, he is full of grace. One of my favorite songs at Christmastime is “Emmanuel” by Amy Grant. It lists some of the many names that describe our Father found in Scripture:
Lord of Life, Lord of all.
He’s the Prince of Peace, Mighty God, Holy One,
He is the Wonderful Counselor, the One who speaks to us in time of need. He is LORD, ruler over all things. He is the Prince of Peace, giving peace to whoever asks. He is Mighty, he is Holy, he is glorious.
The same God that created the heavens and the earth sent His only Son for you. He loves you and dwells in your heart. Let the peace in knowing that He holds you in His hand wash over you.
Father, thank you for your Son. Thank you for the Holy Spirit that intercedes on my behalf when this season is so hectic that I don’t even know what to ask for. Give me peace. Let my heart rest. Let my eyes focus on you. You are the only one that has control over my situation. I give it to you. Help me have peace through it all, for You are good, and I trust you. Amen
