“For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14

The world is constantly telling us how we can find happiness in things, especially during the Christmas season. Even though we can have happiness and JOY present in our lives at the same time, happiness is often based on material things or events and is only temporary. JOY comes from the Lord and runs much deeper in our hearts. JOY can be present in our lives even during our most unhappy and difficult times. The JOY we have in our lives as Christians is based upon the forgiveness that we have through Jesus and the promise we have that when we know Him, we will spend eternity with Him in Heaven! It is not our JOY, but His and from that we can draw our strength.

God loves us so much that He sent His son to rescue us for our sin and provide our lives with unspeakable JOY. JOY is not something we can find, but something that we are given. It is God’s gift to us, just like our salvation!

Thank you Lord for the gift of your Son, Jesus! Open my heart to feel your JOY this Christmas season and not focus on the world’s fleeting happiness. Allow the JOY that you have given us through your Son to shine through us and be a beacon of hope to the world. Amen.
