“Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and joy in His dwelling place.” 1 Chronicles 16:27
Joy is commanded throughout scripture; for our joy is bound to His glory. Our source of Joy is the Lord. His holy love, grace, justice and majesty are beautiful and we have access to Him. Our God is great and from His greatness comes fullness of joy. This strength and joy cannot be found in earthly things or in humanly greatness. True abounding joy can only be found in Him. That is why the author of our passage spoke of him being our dwelling, or resting place. It is in this dwelling place where we find strength and joy.
When we draw near to Him and seek His presence we will find this joy that is spoken of in our passage today. Turn to the Lord not only in joyful times but also in trials. Strength and joy that cannot be found anywhere else can be yours. Our joy will not be perfect a part from Him. When we dwell in Him all is well with our soul.
Where are you looking when you look for joy? What do you turn to when you desire strength? God is great and His greatness knows no limits. We don’t need to look elsewhere for joy; we just need to look to God.
Father, draw me near to You so that I may rest in You. Fill me with Your Holy presence so that I may abide in You and find strength and joy that only comes from You. Father gives us strength so that in times of struggle we experience Your source of eternal joy.
