There are simple steps you can take every day to maximize your health and quality of living. Below are some health tips provided by the Health & Wellness Ministry.

Healthy HeartHeart-Attack Warning Signs

Some heart attacks are sudden and intense, but most of them start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Here are signs that can mean a heart attack is happening:

  • Chest discomfort – Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
  • Discomfort in other areas of the upper body – Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
  • Shortness of breath – This feeling often comes along with chest discomfort. But it can occur with or without chest discomfort.
  • Other signs – These may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.

If you or someone you’re with has one or more of these signs call 911 immediately. Get to the hospital right away.

If you’re the one having symptoms, and you can’t access the emergency medical services (EMS), have someone drive you to the hospital right away. Don’t drive yourself, unless you have absolutely no other option.

Wash Your Hands5 Steps To Protect Your Health

  1. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  2. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  4. Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  5. If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine) Keep away from others as much as possible to keep from making others sick.
